History of the KY-HIO

The KWHA-HIO was formed in 1999 as a result of Kentucky Walking Horse Association membership approval for the formation of an HIO (Horse Industry Organization).  A Kentucky HIO development project had been considered for several years as a means to better serve its affiliated shows.  With continued encouragement by show managers and membership, the KWHA leadership began its own affiliation program at the end of the 1998 show season known as KY-HIO (Kentucky Walking Horse Association-Horse Industry Organization.)  The intent and purpose of the KY-HIO is to serve its member shows in the best manner.

KY-HIO's Organizational Structure

 Guidance for the KWHA-HIO is directed by a seven-member
Oversight Committee of which the appointments to this committee
come from the KWHA. Stemming from the Oversight Committee
is the more specifically defined Hearing Committee. The KY-HIO
also has an executive director and a DQP services coordinator.
