Buford “Buck” Martin Obituary

The KWHA extends their deepest sympathy to the Martin Family on the passing of KWHA Hall of Fame Member Buford “Buck” Martin.  Complete Obituary follows:

Buford “Buck” Martin, age 91,of Owenton, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence.

Born May 25, 1925, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Rufus and Florence Bond Martin and was preceded in death by his siblings, Roscoe Martin and Evelyn Faulkner.  Buck was a member of the Long Ridge Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Army.  He was well know in the equine industry, owning and training horses at Martin Stables.  he showed horses for over 47years, was a member of both the Ohio and Kentucky Walking Horse Associations and was a member of the KY Walking Horse Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillian “Curtie” Martin; his son, Buford Kemper “Kemp” Martin and a host of extended family and friends.

McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements.  Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 11am until 2pm.  Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Bro. John Thomas presiding.  Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Children’s Fund.
