Lillian K. “Curty” Martin, age 90, of Owenton, passed away Christmas Day at the Owenton Center.
Born November 13, 1929, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Loula Bourne Kemper and the widow of Buford “Buck” Martin. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Alice Kemper, R.F. Kemper and Harold Kemper. She was a graduate of Georgetown College and taught elementary school for over 37 years in the Owen County School System. She and her family owned Martin Stables and were heavily involved in the Walking Horse Industry. She was a member of the KY Walking Horse Association and Ladies Auxiliary, where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013. She was also a member of the Ohio Valley Walking Horse Association, the Owen County Retired Teachers Association and the Long Ridge Baptist Church.
Curty is survived by her son, Buford K. “Kemp” Martin and Emily Appleman; and her siblings, Peggy Thomas and James “Buddy Kemper.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 from 11 am until 1 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm with Curty’s nephew, Bro. John Thomas presiding. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery and memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Children’s Fund.
