The KWHA sends their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Alma Stephens. Alma was the widow of Carl Stephens and the mother to Doug and Van Stephens. She was always a huge supporter of the walking horse industry. Complete obituary follows:
Alma Stephens, 90, of Grayson, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at her residence. She was born June 24, 1932, in Carter City a daughter of the late Ernest and Melissa Parsons Haney.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Douglas Stephens in 2011.
Alma was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Pactolas United Methodist Church. She worked at Smith Jewelry in Grayson for many years. She was past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Chapter #10 in Grayson and past Chairwoman of the Republican Party in Carter County.
Alma is survived by two sons, Carl Douglas Stephens Jr. (Doreatha) and Van Gregory Stephens (Libby) both of Grayson, KY; four grandchildren, Douglas Recole (Shannon) Stephens, Melissa Anna Mabry, Van Gregory Stephens II (Britney), and Corey Robinson Stephens (Trish); five great-grandchildren, Erin Leigh Wilson (Corey), Rhiannon Hope Greer, Adam Delane Mabry, Jackson Nicole Stephens, and Carl Zackary Mabry; four great-great-grandchildren, Baily and Carter Wilson, Adeline Hope,and Emmitt Greer.A special thanks to caregivers Judy Bowens and Michelle Stone.
Pallbearers will be Adam and Zac Mabry, Recole, Greg, and Corey Stephens, and John Harper.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home, Tom Riffe, minister. Burial will follow in Grayson Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
