John R. Cox III, 54, husband of 31 years to Dana Curtis Cox, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his home. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on October 22, 1961. He graduated from GRC in 1979 and from Eastern Kentucky University in 1983 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. John was in the car business for more than 25 years and currently worked as Business Manager for Tim Short Dodge Jeep Ram Dealership in Morehead. He was a member of First Baptist Church. John was an avid UK Basketball fan and also enjoyed showing Tennessee Walking Horses, which he showed from the age of 16, until just a few years ago.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter Hannah (Justin) Abner; one aunt, Norlaine Conrad of Newport Ritchie, Florida; mother and father in law, Larry and Frances Curtis; sister and brother in law, Missy and Mark Davidson; several cousins; and numerous extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Cox, Jr. and Elizabeth Gaunce Cox.

Services will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Scobee Funeral Home by Rev. Don Burkhead. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Abner, Mark Davidson, Greg Osborne, Dallas Wingate, Jerry Smalley, Ernie Dolahite, C.J. Fox and Castle Redmon. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow employees at the Morehead and Winchester Tim Short Dealerships.

Visitation will be Friday, January 1, 2016 from 4:00-7:00PM at Scobee Funeral Home
